We can guess. We would rather not.
A replacement quote that does not start with the installed equipment is a guess with a dollar sign. The nameplate on the outdoor unit (and the air handler / furnace if you can get to it safely) is the source of truth.
Shoot this, in daylight, no flash glare
- The whole outdoor unit from a few feet — so we see coil condition, disconnect, and line-set.
- A tight shot of the data plate: brand, model, serial, voltage, R-410A vs older refrigerant, nominal tons if printed.
- The indoor unit plate if the closet or attic hatch is safe. Do not walk rafters for us.
If the sticker is cooked and unreadable, say so. That is information.
What we do with it
Model tells us coil family and roughly how it was matched. Serial dates it. Voltage stops us from quoting a 230-volt air handler onto a 115-volt circuit. Refrigerant type tells us whether this is a straightforward swap or a line-set conversation.
We still want a visit before anyone cuts copper. Photos get you a range and a parts conversation, not a locked price from the driveway. See we do not quote from the driveway.
Send the pictures with the book form. Notes field is fine.
